It is to a true initiation to the Flea Market that Roderick Levéjac, Chef Concierge at the Four Seasons Hotel George V, invites you in the company of one of his old friends, to explore a fascinating place that has become nowadays the largest antique market in the world.
Its origins date back to the seventeenth century when Richelieu by an order, decided to redirect to the outskirts of Paris the trading of used or second hand goods. Paris has grown and it is beyond the walls of Thiers, the « fortifs » as the People of Paris used to call them, just outside the belt boulevards, a zone free of any tax, that we find, during the nineteenth century, these scavengers and other crocheters who sell their tat and old clothes to which refer the « puces » (fleas).
The « Marché aux Puces de Saint-Ouen » was officially born in 1885, and has slowly grown after decades to cover today over 7 hectares. Comprising fifteen different markets, we invite you to discover the most interesting ones, « Paul Bert », adjoining « Serpette » that we shall also visit as well as marchés « Biron », « Vernaison » and « Dauphine ».
We shall leave the hotel at 9.30/9.45am in a private Minivan in order to reach, after a short 15mns drive, Bistrot Paul Bert for a wonderful breakfast during which our specialist will join us and initiate us about « Les Puces ». We should be back at the hotel before 1pm. This tour is complimentary and limited to 12 participants.
This Parisian experience is offered exclusively to all hotel guests of Four Seasons Hotel George V, upon reservation at the Concierge desk.
